液化石油气是在炼油厂内，由天然气或者石油进行加压降温液化所得到的一种无色挥发性液体。它极易自燃，当其在空气中的含量达到了一定的浓度范围后，它遇到明火就能爆炸。
经由炼油厂所得到的液化石油气主要组成成分为丙烷、丙烯、丁烷、丁烯中的一种或者两种，而且其还掺杂着少量戊烷、戊烯和微量的硫化物杂质。如果要对液化石油气进行进一步的纯化，可以使用醇胺吸收塔将其中的氧硫化碳进行吸收脱除，最后再用碱洗去多余的硫化物。
