5A molecular sieve chromatography column is a classic column used in gas chromatography for separating small molecule substances, especially indispensable in the following fields:
Separation of permanent gases
Separation of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, and methane. This is the most classic application of 5A columns. It can separate these four gas baselines.
For example, air separation, analysis of dissolved gases in transformer oil, etc.
Separation of n-alkanes and isoparaffins
The molecular chain of n-alkanes is relatively straight, with a small kinetic diameter (about 4.9 Å), and can enter the 5A pore.
Heterogeneous alkanes and aromatic hydrocarbons have a large number of branched chains and cannot enter the pore channels due to their large size.
Therefore, the 5A column can selectively retain n-alkanes, thereby achieving the separation of n-alkanes from non n-alkanes, which is very important in petrochemical and fuel analysis.
Separation of other small molecule polar substances
For example: water, ammonia, carbon dioxide, argon gas, etc.
