乙醇是甲醇的同系物，其物理化学性质与甲醇很相近，加之精细甲醇的纯度很高（99．96％以上），主峰很宽，容易掩盖乙醇峰，而且在多数固定液上，乙醇峰是在甲醇峰之后流出，受主峰影响严重，这就使得甲醇中微量乙醇的分析成为一个难题。国内现在很多企业都采用GB338—2004标准进行此项分析。

Ethanol is a homologue of methanol, and its physical and chemical properties are very similar to methanol.
